You may or may not know, but I left behind my dream craft room. In fact, we designed the complete upstairs of our house around my craft room. And it was perfect.
I think the hardest part about selling our lake house was leaving my craft room. You can see it HERE.
So, when we bought our lot and hired our architect I made sure that there would be room for a craft room. I had NO idea that it would be bigger and better than my old one. This craft room has a HUGE closet AND a bathroom! I am moving on up in the world.
The design of this room will be different though. #1 – there are more windows. #2 – there are 3 doors instead of 1. So, I can't just plop down the old room into the new one.
So, while we are in the planning stages of the house I tackled my craft room.
I spent many hours designing my craft room. Or should I say…beginning the design in my craft room. I laid out the room to scale on graph paper. I measured all of the things that I wanted to put in the room. I also took a hard look at my old craft room to determine what worked and what did not.
Here is a video I created showing you how I began. This video shows you the beginning of my thought process in my craft room. If you have any questions let me know.

As I am planning out my room…
I have spent many hours online looking at other craft rooms. What I was really trying to find were ideas that were not custom so I could save a few dollars. What I found were ideas that were custom. Because basically what I need is custom.
Since I have many crafts that need to go in 1 room I have to find space for it all. Predominantly I am a paper crafter – which requires so many little things.
My craft room requirements are:
Large island with seating on both sides
Space for my sewing machine and table
Paper crafting supplies storage – which includes:
8 1/2 x 11″ cardstock
Inks
Envelopes
Ribbon
Glues and Glue Tapes
Jewels
Embossing stuff
Blending tools
Space for my 4 Raskog carts – these hold the individual projects that I am working on
I will definitely be meeting with my local closet company and see how they can help me in my room. I used closet companies in my old craft room for my island and tall storage units.
Some of my FAVE organizational products come from the Container Store. I love love love the Elfa shelving units and all of the things that go with it. I also LOVE these shoe boxes. They stack and slide – so I have room for more stuff!
