Do you feel like those emotions and feelings are taking over your life? That you can't see or do anything without all of that following you around? Overshadowing your life? Crippling you emotionally?
I get it. It is hard right now. Covid is a low hanging black cloud that does not seem to lift high enough for you to get your footing. There is no end in sight. And you are living in a world of ‘maybe's' and ‘soon' right now.
There is job loss. Income loss. Loss of family and friends. Fear of getting sick. Fear of losing your job.
So much…oh just so much. And my heart aches for you. It just aches.
Christmas was about a month ago. I completed a great daily devotional in the month of December called ‘Savor the Savior'. I was reading about Mary. Here she is, minding her own business. Engaged to be married and probably pretty excited about that. And, out of nowhere, the angel Gabriel appears and tells her that she will soon get pregnant. As a virgin, she will get pregnant. What?!
Did fear envelope her? Is she worried about what people will think? Will they think that she and Joseph had premarital sex? Will they believe her when she says they did not? Will her family kick her out? Does she allow all of those emotions to take over her life?
No – instead she asks ‘How is this possible? And Gabriel replies:
Let me write that again…Nothing is impossible with God. Nothing. Zip. Nada. None.
How about all of that fear you have. All of those emotions swirling around in your heart and mind…
God will answer all of your prayers? Give you a job? Help you feed your kids? I am afraid the answer is no. Unfortunately we live in a sin cursed world and some things are not of our liking and beyond our control. Then, what does it mean you ask?
It means that YOU will change. YOU will trust. YOU will be able to live your life without the crippling effects of fear, anxiety or depression. YOU will know that God has your back. The life you are living right now – that life of fear, is not a life at all. It is NOT how God designed you to be. He wants you to know that ‘Nothing is impossible with God.' Nothing. He, and He alone, can set you free.
And remember….Nothing is impossible with God.
Verse: ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.' Proverbs 3 :5-6
Prayer: ‘ Dear Lord. I want to trust you with all my heart. I really really do. But, I am struggling right now Lord. I am struggling to understand why you are allowing all of this to happen to me. But Lord, I know you are ALL knowing. ALL seeing. You are the creator of me and everything around me. And Lord, I acknowledge that you will care for me and my family and my loved ones. I ask that you help me to get over my fear. I ask that you help me to lean in and trust.'
Verse: ‘We wait in hope for the Lord: he is our help and our shield'. Proverbs 33:20
Prayer: ‘ Dear Lord, I am waiting for you to make this all better. I am placing all of my hope in you Lord. I know you are my help. I know you are my shield. Please help me to hold that shield in front so that I can deflect all of the arrows of the evil one. All of those arrows labeled: Fear. Doubt. Anxiety. Depression. Worry. Lord, I do not want those arrows piercing me anymore. And I need your help to hold that shield high'.
Verse: ‘Those who know your name trust in you; for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.' Psalm 9:10
Prayer: ‘ Most gracious Heavenly Father. I know you. Not only do I know your name – I know YOU. I know you love me. I know you created me. I know you want me to trust you. I know that you will never forsake me. Because Lord I am seeking you right now….and I am seeking with all my heart. Take this fear away. Replace it with trust. And remind me second by second and minute by minute that I can lean into you always.'
Verse: ‘When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.'
Prayer: ‘ Lord, I am afraid. I am so afraid. I need a job. My mom is sick. How can I go on right now Lord? Everything looks so bleak. There is no end in sight. When is this vaccine going to be available? But Lord…even though I am afraid I trust you. I would rather put my trust in you than anyone or anything else. Because I KNOW you have my back and love me beyond compare.'
I hope these help you. And remember, ‘Nothing is impossible with God'.
Verse: ‘Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?' Matthew 6:27
Prayer: ‘ Lord, worrying seems to subtract from my life…not add to it. Please help me take this worry away. Please help me to trust You more. Please help me to live the way you want me to.'
