We all have faith in something, right? Whether our faith is in our jobs, spouses, economy, or our own selves. But, what happens when the object of our faith lets you down? Or disappoints you? Or doesn’t do what you want or expect? Human relationships can be fickle. The economy is not in our control. In fact, nothing is in our control.
As a result, I choose to put my faith in something else….or someone else.
I became a follower of Jesus when I was older…like around 50. My life did a 180º turnaround. I had the opportunity to not only do it right…but to also choose live a life of joy. A life of victory. A joyful life.
Now, little did I know that all of the answers to life's questions are in the Bible. How to raise kids, heal marriages, navigate friendships, spend my money, act, behave, think, do, see, and so much more. Did you know that the Bible talks about forgiveness and contentment and peace? No? Me neither!
He knew that we were sinners before we were even born (in fact, he knew us before we were even conceived). He knew that the sin that we carried would weigh us down. And, because He is holy and perfect, He knew that our sin would separate us from Him. Did you know that the ‘mistakes' that you make, the unkind words, or that cheating on your income tax return are all considered a sin? No? Me neither! Anything that is NOT holy and perfect, anything that separates us from God is a sin. Whew!
So, from the beginning of time God had a plan. And that plan was Jesus. God sent his one and only son down to earth to live with sinners. Sinners like you and me. And that one and only perfect son died on the cross…while carrying our sins. He did that so that we could have a personal relationship with Him. He did that so we would not be weighed down by our own sin.
And, most importantly I think…because of what Jesus has done for me, I have the ability to choose joy everyday. I have the ability to rise above my circumstances. I have the ability to NOT look at the things out of my control. I have the ability to manage what is in my control. I have the ability to choose joy…and to not succumb to the anger, frustration and irritation that seems to be a factor in the lives of most people. God has a lot to say about joy.
As a blogger, everything I do and write about is through the lens of a redeemed child of God and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
