I was in charge of snacks for our Small Group this past week. Since I love to bake…but try not to eat sugar (a very difficult thing since I have a HUGE sweet tooth), I bake for groups! This way there aren’t a lot of leftovers for me to bring home. A win win all around, don’t you think?
I thought an Apple Crisp would be a yummy thing to make. I was told it was wonderful and very tasty. After you make it, let me know what you think.
I think this would be a great addition to your Thanksgiving desserts too!
Here you go –
Ingredients –
8 granny smith apples (approx. 4 pounds) 1 1/2 C brown sugar – firmly packed 2 C old fashioned oats 2 t cinnamon 1/4 C white sugar 3/4 C flour 1 1/2 sticks cold butter (I used unsalted) cut into chunks. Cold is important. Keep in the refrigerator until you are ready
Directions –
Preheat oven to 350º
Butter your rectangle baking dish (9 x 12)
Combine the oats, cinnamon and flour in a bowl – mix well
Peel and chop the apples – I used slices not chunks
Add white sugar to the apples and mix well
Using a pastry cutter (or 2 knives scissor fashion), cut the butter into the oats/cinnamon/flour mixture until it resembles pea-sized crumbs or a bit bigger
Pile apples in the baking dish
Spread/crumble topping over the apples and pat to even it out
Bake for 40-50 minutes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream
