Everything Spray Vs. Complexion Mist

A few times each week we get the question, “What’s the difference between Everything Spray and Complexion Mist?” It’s a fair question. They’re both sprays and both are completely unique and outside the realm of products we’re accustomed to seeing. But before I explain the difference, let me give you a little background on why our products are so outside of the box. We’re not big on pushing a one-size-fits-all approach to skincare. We’ll never tell you to wash with THIS cleanser, followed by THIS toner and then THIS moisturizer. Every complexion is different and has its own unique needs. And those needs vary based on age, where you live, time of year, diet, etc. Plus, it’s always a good idea to mix things up and expose your skin to varying sources of nutrients. I guess you could say we’re the skincare anti-routine – just something to keep in mind as we delve deeper into this topic! Now, here’s a breakdown! EVERYTHING SPRAY Everything Spray is a multi-purpose spray that works as a toner, armpit refresher (magnesium oil gives it an odor-fighting boost…among other things!) and helps to prevent ingrown hairs after shaving. Customers have also had success using it on rashes, infections, bug bites, and more. The following ingredients give Everything Spray its SUPERIOR skin-toning abilities (especially for those with oily + acne-prone skin): Organic Lavender Hydrosol (soothes irritated skin) Organic Witch Hazel (an astringent that tones the skin and reduces inflammation) Organic Raw + Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar (antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and balances pH levels) Organic Tea Tree Essential Oil (excellent for treating inflamed/irritated skin) Organic Lavender Essential Oil (broad-spectrum skin healer + regenerater) COMPLEXION MIST Our Complexion Mists are hydrating, soothing and beautifying mists with mild toning properties. They can be used after cleansing (morning or night), over makeup as a setting spray, or anytime your complexion needs a refreshing pick-me-up! Our Complexion Mists are suitable for all skin types, and we recommend rotating each of them into your skincare regime. Here’s some info on what makes each of these mists so special: Geranium Complexion Mist: Powerful regenerator that diminishes the appearance of scarring, fine lines and signs of aging. Most well-known for its ability to regenerate skin, speed skin-cell turnaround and bring life to dull/tired complexions. Neroli Complexion Mist: Boosts moisture + plumpness, balances oil levels and combats acne with powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Lavender Complexion Mist: Versatile in nature, Organic Lavender Hydrosol is especially soothing for damaged/inflamed skin and is also well known for its calming properties. Each type of mist also contains Organic Aloe Vera Juice (works to hydrate and moisturize the skin, helping to restore its natural youthful glow), Organic Witch Hazel (an astringent that tones the skin + reduces inflammation) and Organic Vegetable Glycerin (a humectant that softens skin + locks in moisture). Whew, that was a lot of information. We hope it gives you a better picture of the difference between these two incredible products! Still confused or have other questions? Opposites Attract: Why Oil-Based Skincare Products Are Best Paired With a Facial Mist

Some of the best things in life are duos. Just stop and think about it for a minute.  → Peanut butter and jelly → Meditation and early mornings → Rainy days and a warm cup of tea → Fairtrade and Organic →  Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen When two complementary things, people, or concepts come together, it’s an unstoppable force. We’ve intentionally centered many of our holistic skincare products around this very concept. Used together, our non-toxic skincare products create even more potent, transformative results. One of the most potent duos combines two essential elements: oil and water. Why? Oil-based skincare products are more effective in tandem with our facial mists. Both can easily be misunderstood, but trust us. Both oil and water deserve a place in your holistic skincare routine.  Here’s why. Why We Love Oil (And Oil-Based Skincare Products) for Your Skin To some, it may seem weird that oil is helpful for your skin, especially if you’re prone to a more oily complexion. But thankfully, oil-based skincare is gaining recognition as the powerful tool it is. It helps clear acne, restore moisture and balance, and improve overall skin health.  The best part is its versatility for all skin states.  Debunking the Oil Myth For a while, there was a lot of misinformation on oil in the skincare world. Most of us were led to believe that oil was the enemy of healthy skin – when, in fact, it turns out the opposite is true!  Here’s the thing. Sebum is what your skin produces to lubricate and lock in moisture. Many of the oils we use (in our cleansing oil, facial oil, face balm, and face cream) mimic the sebum your skin creates. This makes them an incredible match to deeply moisturize, replenish, and balance – regardless of your skin goals. And in turn, the regulation of your skin’s oil production (fueled by oil-based skincare products) promotes a secure skin barrier. The result?  Healthy, balanced skin. So yes, our products are unconventional – but in the best way.  Oil is a key component for vibrant, moisturized, and healthy skin. With that knowledge, we proudly stand apart from the crowd. We hope you'll embrace our oil-based skincare products too – even if it’s not the norm. Benefits of Oil-Based Skincare Products Our non-toxic skincare combines the synergy and efficacy of BOTH plant and animal fats as a powerful duo for skin health. Together, they deliver potent nutrients and support homeostasis in your skin barrier. Many of the oils we use contain nourishing and protective properties like:1 Antioxidant Antimicrobial Anti-inflammatory Better-balanced skin barrier Improved wound healing Anti-carcinogenic In addition to these protective properties, oil-based skincare can also:  → Balance Oil Production  No matter your skin state (balanced, oil-rich, combination, or dry), oil-based skincare products help maintain proper oil levels in your skin. And sure, putting oil on an already oil-rich skin may feel counterintuitive, but like dissolves like! What do we mean?  The right blend of oils helps balance your skin’s oil production – not strip it completely. It’s an excellent way to support your skin holistically – including during the hormonal cycles that can affect oil production.  → Restore + Maintain Moisture  Moisturized skin is a sign of health! Our face balms, face creams, and facial oils are deeply moisturizing. The oil-based formulas work to restore + maintain the skin’s protective barrier. This means your skin is far less prone to inflammation, flaking, premature aging, sun damage, and other dermatological issues.  *Tip: Retain even more moisture by layering a facial mist before and after – more on that in a minute. ;) → Clear Acne and Irritation The balancing effects of oil-based skincare products keep your skin free from buildup and clogged pores. And as we know, clogged pores irritate + set you up for acne, redness, and inflammation.  (Don’t worry, we only use non-comedogenic formulas + cold-pressed oils. Aka oils that are safe and effective for your skin.) So whether you struggle with dryness and flaking, or oil and acne – or anything in between – oil-based skincare products are a great option. To give you a taste of just how incredible oil-based skincare can be, let’s explore some of the specific oils we use. Our Favorite PP Oil-based Skincare Products We’ve researched and tested for YEARS to find the most effective oils for each skin state. So rest assured every single oil-based skincare product we offer is backed by science and real results. They provide the most reparative and healing properties nature has to offer for your unique skin goals. These are just a few of the star players you’ll find in our oil-based skincare products. Emu Oil – ethically sourced + processed. This animal-based oil is packed with omegas, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids that deeply penetrate.2  It’s anti-inflammatory and moisturizing – boosting cell regeneration and oxygenating skin cells.3,2 *Find it in our Face Balm + Face Cream collections Tallow – ethically sourced from grass-fed (and finished) cows. This isn’t an actual “oil,” but it acts similarly. It’s a healthy fat that works with your skin and is highly biocompatible. (The Latin version of tallow translates to “sebum,” if that tells you anything! ;))  Tallow is packed with bioavailable nutrients, vitamins, and minerals only found in animal-based fat. (We could go on for days about the unique benefits of tallow – check out this post on tallow) *Find it in our Face Balm + Face Cream collection Castor Oil – deeply hydrating. It boosts collagen production and contains antimicrobial properties to help prevent acne-causing bacteria.4 It also enhances the smoothness and softness of the skin and promotes healthy tissue growth. With these properties, it can also aid in restoring uneven skin tone.5 *Find it in our Cleansing Oil and Plumping Serum Prickly Pear Seed Oil – contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.6 It’s also one of the highest plant sources of vitamins E & K, which are healing for sun-damaged skin. *Find it in our Plumping Serum and Clarifying Serum Jojoba Oil – its high “waxy content” that’s extremely similar to our skin’s sebum makes it a coveted choice for repairing + replenishing skin. It contains potent antioxidant, anti-acne, and soothing properties excellent for calming psoriasis. It also has anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antimicrobial capabilities.7 (This oil was actually the most impactful catalyst for change in Bethany's skin and inspired her natural skincare journey) *Find it in our Cleansing Oils, Clarifying Serum, Soothing Serum, and all our skin-specific face creams Rosehip Seed Oil – its high content of fatty acids and antioxidants provides nourishment and protection against oxidative stress and inflammation. It’s especially nourishing for inflamed skin.8 *Find it in our Plumping Serum and Cleansing Oil for Dry Skin Pumpkin Seed Oil – rich in fatty acids and can aid in wound healing.1Contains extremely high vitamin E + K content and soothes inflammatory conditions like eczema and psoriasis. With vitamin C and zinc, it also provides relief + repair for problematic skin conditions.  *Find it in our Soothing Serum  Olive Oil –  contains vitamins A, D, E, and K, which are all excellent for skin health. It also boasts protective effects against premature aging, antibacterial properties, and moisturizing properties to soften and soothe skin. (We'll be growing/processing our own olive oil from our new regenerative farm in the future!) *Find it in our Everything Balm and Baby Balm  Baobab Oil – moisturizes, retains water, and improves skin softness, texture, and elasticity. It also helps repair the skin barrier, reduces inflammation, and speeds up wound healing.9 *Find it in our Cleansing Oil for Oily + Acne Prone Skin Our skin-specific formulas and products are meticulously crafted because we know oil-based skincare can play a massive role in healthy skin. But as duos go, these work better with their partner in crime. ;)  Now that we’ve explained all the major benefits of oil-based products, let’s dive into the power of facial mists. Why Our Facial Mists Boost Your Oil-Based Products Water, aka our facial mist, is your missing link. Facial mist maximizes your results with your oil-based products. And yes, water and oil are opposites – but remember – opposites attract. ;) Okay, let’s get one thing out of the way: you won’t see “water” on the ingredients list for our facial mists. Here’s the thing: we didn’t want to settle for just water – you can get that out of your faucet at home! (Plus, water cheapens products + requires a preservative.)  Our facial mists are crafted with hydrosols + water-locking ingredients as their foundation. Instead of pumping our products full of *plain* water, we use plant/floral waters – called hydrosols (and other hydration-enhancing ingredients) – in our facial mists.  How does this benefit your skin when paired with oil-based products?  It maximizes your hydration + benefits. Our facial mists provide the same hydration as water but with added vital nutrients and vitamins from nature. This means you get EVEN better results from your oil-based skincare products. ;) Water alone wouldn’t be as beneficial – and neither would oil. Here’s how they work together to drastically improve your results: → Better Absorption  Without a spritz of facial mist before and after, your face balm or face cream may potentially just “sit” on the surface of your skin. Instead, you want it to absorb and do the good work below the surface.  The hydrosols in our facial mists (+ our Everything Spray) work synergistically with your oil-based skincare products to absorb more fully + keep moisture (and nutrients) in. Think of your facial mist as the delivery vehicle for the nutrient-rich oils. Similar to how gel water helps your body hydrate even better internally, the same is true for hydrosols and oil-based skincare products. → Provides Hydration to the Skin Just like you need hydration from the inside, you also need it from the outside. Oh, and want in on a secret? Aging is really just dehydration in the skin! So it only makes sense that hydrated skin = less irritation, inflammation, more youthful texture, and “bounce” (hello, jello skin). → Restores Balance Our bodies are mostly water, but we’re constantly losing hydration (through coffee, sweating, alcohol, environmental pollution, seasonal changes, stripping cleansers, etc.). The facial mist helps rejuvenate the skin through potent hydration, bringing balance to the microbiome. That’s why our mists use specific hydrosols for skin. → Prevents Transepidermal Water Loss Not only does facial mist hydrate your skin, but it also “locks in” moisture from your oil-based serum, face balms, and face creams. (Using facial mist between each oil-based skincare product is our Holistic Esthetician, Courtney’s, tried and true tip for a reason!) With various benefits that improve the health + appearance of your skin both inside and out, what’s not to love? Let’s get into the specific ingredients that serve as the “water” portion of your oil + water skincare regimen. Breaking Down Our Facial  Mists: Hydrosols + Water-locking Ingredients We Love Similar to our oil-based skincare products, we’ve spent years perfecting + refining our facial mists. So we know they bring you only the best ingredients and most potent results.  Here are some of the best hydration-rich ingredients we include in our facial mists: Aloe Vera Juice – though not technically a hydrosol, we love this plant-based water-locking ingredient for all skin types. It contains antioxidants and salicylic acid. It can calm breakouts, support healing, and stimulate hyaluronic acid to rebuild cellular hydration.  Therapeutic, healing, and protective properties work against environmental stressors and decrease inflammation.  *Find it in all of our customized Facial Mists + Everything Spray Neroli Hydrosol – antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory support for acne, scarring and pigmentation. Nudges natural cell renewal. *Find it in our Clarifying Facial Mist Geranium Hydrosol – contains antibacterial and skin-healing properties and encourages cell regeneration. It also acts as an astringent, and reduces pigmentation from scarring.10 *Find it in our Plumping Facial Mist Rose Hydrosol – naturally antibacterial and contains antioxidants and vitamins A + C. It strengthens skin cells + neutralizes free radicals. It protects skin from water loss while also providing astringent properties that tighten and tone skin. *Find it in our Plumping Facial Mist Lavender Hydrosol – contains antibacterial properties, reduces inflammation and sensitivities. It also restores hydration and expedites healing for compromised skin barriers. *Find it in our Everything Spray How to Pair Your Skin Mist With Your Oil-based Skincare Using your products together is pretty straightforward, so don’t stress! Here’s how we recommend using your products to get the most out of your oil + water duo. After washing your face with your Cleansing Oil, spritz a generous amount of your chosen skin mist. This helps replenish hydration after cleansing and provides a drink of water for your skin cells. It also preps your skin for your facial oil and oil-based moisturizer (aka face cream or face balm).  *Apply your oil-based skincare products while your skin is damp! After applying your facial oil + face balm or face cream, round out your routine with another application of facial mist. Think of it as the cherry on top to seal in moisture. It helps your oil-based skincare sink in more deeply, and boost its efficacy!  The bottom line: Oil and water work better together to absorb into your skin, replenishing it in the perfect balance. With our specially formulated facial mists, you can experience the synergistic benefits of a duo that can’t be beat.  The Skincare Duo You Need for a Massive Change At Primally Pure, all our products are designed to build on each other, amplifying your results for an undeniable glow. And because they build on each other, every investment you make in the health of your skin builds on your results. These two powerhouse components – oil and water – are a match made in heaven. Your facial mist hydrates, replenishes, and preps. And your oil-based skincare products balance oil production, restore moisture, protect the skin barrier, and diminish signs of aging.  When given the chance, this duo showcases a restorative + synergistic relationship that can boost your skin health like no other. ;) Pair your oil-based skincare products with a skin mist. If you feel like finishing with a serum is enough hydration, let that be the last step in your skincare routine. Need a bit more moisture? Try alternating between Blue Tansy (balancing/brightening) and Palmarosa + Mint (healing/hydrating) Beauty Cream on top of your serum to support combo skin needs. Have more mature skin and want to bring balance + youthfulness back to your complexion? Get your glow back and get her bundle here! PRO TIP FROM PP’s HOLISTIC ESTHETICIAN A little bit of Beard or Baby Oil goes a long way. All you need is 1-2 drops – and it doubles as a facial moisturizer or shaving oil. Want to keep your skincare routine minimal but still maintain healthy, hydrated skin? Get Gerry’s bundle here! PP PRODUCT HACK Can’t go a day without my Charcoal Deodorant. COURTNEY: Holistic Esthetician, Content Curator and Jet Setter SKIN STATE My skin feels: combination, dull/dry + acne-prone SKINCARE ROUTINE My product staples: Cleansing Oil (Normal) Everything Spray Complexion Mist Collection Clarifying Serum Palmarosa + Mint Beauty Cream AM: I begin by splashing my face with warm water and then spritz a bit of Everything Spray onto an organic cotton round. I then take that and gently sweep it across my face to create a clean canvas for the day. I then spray Complexion Mist (I blend the Neroli + Lavender Complexion Mists together!) onto my face and apply 4-5 drops of Clarifying Serum while the skin is still damp to help lock in moisture. PM: First, I start by oil cleansing to remove any residue that may have accumulated throughout my day (also removes eye makeup!) Next, I follow up with which ever Complexion Mist my skin is needing that evening and apply about 5-6 drops of Clarifying Serum. PRO TIP FROM PP’s HOLISTIC ESTHETICIAN See below 😉 Want to brighten your skin + minimize breakouts no matter where the wind may take you? Get Courtney’s bundle here! PP PRODUCT HACKS I’ll spritz my Complexion Mist before AND after applying my serum or Beauty Cream. I feel like it adds another layer of hydration + healing. Soothing Serum +CBD is my skin’s saving grace (seriously minimizes deeper cystic acne almost overnight). I’ll also alternate my masks throughout the week depending on how my skin is feeling – but the Plumping Mask takes the cake! And of course, facial tools (Gua Sha + Ridged Facial Rollers) make a world of difference in my skin. MADDY: PP’s Skincare Chef, Writer and Tattoo Lover SKIN STATE My skin feels: oil-rich SKINCARE ROUTINE My product staples: Double Cleansing Kit (Oily) Neroli Complexion Mist Fancy Face Clarifying Serum AM: I splash my face with warm water, follow with a few sprays of Neroli Complexion Mist and 3-4 drops of Clarifying Serum. PM: I double cleanse with Cleansing Oil (Oily Skin) and Baby Bar, follow with a few sprays of Neroli Complexion Mist and 3-4 drops of Fancy Face Serum. PRO TIP FROM PP’s HOLISTIC ESTHETICIAN Even oil-rich skin needs skin-loving oils! Skin that is stripped with harsh cleansers or chemicals (which sadly, is often the go-to acne protocol) can go into a state of shock and start to *overproduce* sebum to make up for the lack of oil. The outcome? Excess oils and even more acne. To help bring balance to oil-rich skin states, it may sound counterintuitive, but steer clear of oil-free formulas. I can’t say it enough – healthy, skin-loving oils are really, really good for your skin! Want to finally find balance for your oil-rich complexion? Get Maddy’s must-have bundle here to minimize oil production + promote seriously healthy skin! PP PRODUCT HACKS Baby Balm makes a really great untinted eyebrow gel for low maintenance makeup days! Everything Spray is amazing for healing sunburns quickly and with minimal peeling. I take eye makeup off with Baby Oil and also rotate Soothing Serum +CBD at night. When I’m not falling asleep on my feet, I do Gua Sha or a Ridged Facial Roller. MICHELLE: PP’s Shipping Lead, Music Junkie and Sports Mom SKIN STATE My skin feels: dry SKINCARE ROUTINE My product staples: Double Cleansing Kit (Normal) Everything Spray Soothing Serum Lip Balm Set AM: I typically just splash my face with warm water and spritz a bit of Everything Spray as well and then apply a few drops of Soothing Serum. Oh and most importantly, Lip Balm all day 🙂 PM: I wash face with the Baby Bar nightly and usually oil cleanse about 2x week-ish. Every night I use the Everything Spray as my toner and about 5-6 drops of Soothing Serum to moisturize! PRO TIP FROM PP’s HOLISTIC ESTHETICIAN To support dry skin states, start building moisture at the beginning of your day! Apply Everything Spray to refresh + detoxify and then boost hydration with a Complexion Mist/Skin-Specific Serum. Relieve dryness and rebuild hydration with Michelle’s go-to products. Get her bundle here! PP PRODUCT HACKS I apply Baby Balm on my hands before putting on gloves at work. I mask once a week – Clarifying Mask when I’m breaking out, Soothing Mask when my skin is dry. TRAVIS: PP’s Director of Production, Craftsman and Cactus Collector SKIN STATE My skin feels: dry/sensitive SKINCARE ROUTINE My product staples: Baby Bar Everything Spray Baby Balm Peppermint Lip Balm AM: I keep it pretty simple and typically just wash my face with the Baby Bar and apply a little Baby Balm afterward. Plus it has such a clean/refreshing aroma from Tea Tree and Lavender! Support sensitive skin in just a couple simple steps – get Travis’ bundle here! PP PRODUCT HACKS I love the Mojito Beard Oil for shaving my legs – it makes my legs feel so smooth and I can even go longer between shaves. A MUST!! RYLIE: Spa Experience Coordinator, Makeup Artist, Nature Lover SKIN STATE My skin feels: dry SKINCARE ROUTINE My product staples: Cleansing Oil (Dry) Clarifying Serum Blue Tansy Beauty Cream Baby Balm AM: I usually just wipe my face with a warm washcloth and then apply 5-6 drops of Clarifying Serum all over my face. PM: I oil cleanse and then apply Blue Tansy Beauty Cream all over. Afterwards I apply a bit of Baby Balm under my eyes and then Zzzzzz.. PRO TIP FROM PP’s HOLISTIC ESTHETICIAN Try adding in a Complexion Mist in the morning to replenish the skin + boost the benefits of your Skin-Specific Serum! Get naturally glowing skin like you just stepped out of the spa – get Rylie’s bundle here! PP PRODUCT HACKS When skin is looking extra dull, I put on Clarifying Mask to jumpstart my week! My Morning + Evening Skincare Routine Explained

You guys, I’m really excited to dive into the exact steps I do on a daily basis to care for my skin and share some behind-the-scenes skincare tips straight from my bathroom. But I do need to lay a blanket statement before we begin. This is my personal skincare routine for my unique skin + self-care needs and may not suit every skin state. It can (and should!) vary from person to person, but I hope that as I explain the exact steps I incorporate into my am/pm skincare routine it will spark some fresh perspectives for how you can incorporate your personal PP products + facial tools each day to enhance the health of your skin and your overall well-being. Here we go! My morning and evening skincare routine explained. GOOD MORNING After getting out of bed in the morning (which, let’s be real, can be really hard to do sometimes), the aromas, the touch, and my favorite facial tool wake up my skin + my senses and help to ground me before beginning my day. I’m still becoming more of a morning person, so I keep this routine simple. Even just taking a few minutes to commit to a morning skincare routine helps to replenish my skin after a solid night’s sleep (or not-so-solid night’s sleep – in which case, my skin craves nourishment even more) and protect my skin as I face pollution, environmental stressors and other factors that can negatively impact the state of my skin. For me, these steps are crucial for keeping skin (and let’s be honest: my self) strong and resilient – no matter what the day ahead may hold. Step 1: Water. I always skip my morning cleanse and just splash my skin with cool water (the cooler temp wakes up my skin and my lymphatic system). Step 2: Facial Dry Brushing. After patting my skin dry with a clean towel, I love on my lymphatic system a little bit more. I wrote all about facial dry brushing in this post and I try to incorporate it into my routine most mornings. This step powerfully supports healthy lymphatic flow and I’ve seen such a shift in the texture and clarity of my skin since using this facial tool for over a year. (And shoutout to my sweet friend Allison at Branch Basics for introducing me to this technique!). Step 3: Everything Spray. This magical mist is my heal-all, cure-all – and it’s technically the first product I apply in the morning. I pour a bit onto an organic cotton round and sweep it across my face, neck and decollete. This is foundational for me first thing in the morning and takes the place of a cleanser – helping to refresh and reset my skin before applying the rest of my skincare. Check out our Everything Spray here. Step 4: Complexion Mist. Sure, you can just use one or the other (Everything Spray or Complexion Mist) but I always layer the two together! Lately, I’ve been loving Lavender. Maybe it’s because life has been so full and my mind craves the calm that this little herb brings, but a few spritzes of this mist really does replenish and balance my skin and my mood. Depending on the time of day, season or state of my skin, I’ll rotate between the 3 Complexion Mists we make (Lavender, Geranium and Neroli) – but no matter what scent I’m spritzing, this is a staple for me am/pm. Take a look at all 3 Complexion Mist scents here. Step 5: Skin-Specific Serum. Highlight, underline or star this step! This part of my skincare routine is where transformation truly happens and, because I’m completely obsessed, I highly encourage everyone (no matter your skin state) to make this step a priority. While my skin is still damp from my Complexion Mist, I massage about 5-8 drops of Plumping Serum from my face down to my decollete. I love this serum in the morning because it literally makes my skin glow and deeply absorbs leaving my face feeling so hydrated – plus the uplifting, floral aroma is exactly what my soul needs to start my day. While our skin-specific serums are a must for nourishing my skin morning and night, I’ll sometimes switch up my serum depending on my mood and how my skin is feeling! Clarifying Serum is my go-to when I want to focus on brightening my skin tone or when I notice breakouts start to surface (this serum seriously works wonders for calming acne – almost overnight!). And Soothing Serum is one of my favorites for its aromatherapy benefits (the soft, woodsy scent is so grounding for me) and it powerfully supports my skin when it’s feeling stressed or dehydrated and needs a little TLC. Obsess over our Plumping Serum, Clarifying Serum and Soothing Serum here! Step 6: Complexion Mist. Yup, my Complexion Mist is making another appearance. 🙂 This is a step I’ve been incorporating for a while and can’t wait to spill this skincare secret with you. In my opinion, toner is the glue that holds your skincare routine together: cleanse, tone, hydrate. BUT I take toning one step further and sandwich my skin-specific serum with my Complexion Mist! A spritz before, a spritz after. I’ll mist my skin after cleansing, of course, to prep my skin before applying my Plumping Serum – and then I’ll mist a few more times as the final step of my skincare routine! This last spritz adds another layer of replenishment and gives my serum another little nudge to do its reparative work. Try it! I’m pretty sure your skin will fall in love with this little toner tip. Step 7: Ridged Facial Roller. My skin is now refreshed, nourished and ready to face the day ahead. Well, almost. My final, final step is one of my most favorite facial tools: our Ridged Facial Roller. After applying my topical products, I grab my Rose Quartz Ridged Roller from the freezer. I LOVE keeping my roller the freezer – it feels SO refreshing, wakes up my tired skin and seriously minimizes any puffiness from the night before. Using a facial roller first thing infuses the nutrient-dense ingredients even deeper into my skin and continues to support healthy lymphatic flow for glowing skin from within. I won’t start my day without my ridged roller. 🙂 Check out our Rose Quartz, Yellow Nephrite and Green Jade Ridged Facial Rollers here and our brand new serum/roller combos here! They’re the perfect pair to care for your skin. Okay, you might be moving through these steps thinking: Um, I’m sorry, step 7? Ain’t nobody got time for that. You guys, these steps literally take me a total of 2 (maybe 3) minutes. I’m not a morning person either, remember? 😉 But these are simple, effective steps that I always make time for first thing. GOODNIGHT At the end of the day, my evening skincare routine is my reset. Each step – from the OCM (the warm washcloth and facial massage are game-changers) to my Gua Sha practice – reminds me to slow down and signals my body it’s time for sleep. Even if I feel too tired to even think about washing my face (I see you, mamas), I’ve personally found that my full evening skincare routine supports even better, deeper, dreamier sleep – and glowing skin when I wake up! Incorporating these intentional skincare steps into my bedtime routine helps to engage my parasympathetic nervous system to promote more rested sleep – plus my skin looks more rejuvenated and hydrated in the morning when I make my bedtime products a priority! These are the steps I follow before bed and when I take a bit more time and intention for myself and my skin. Step 1: Remove eye makeup. I start with this step and do it separately from my full Oil Cleansing routine. Rather than cleansing my eye makeup along with the rest of my face (and smearing mascara all over my skin), I apply a dropper full of Cleansing Oil (it contains castor oil which helps promote longer, stronger lashes!) to an organic cotton round and gently remove my eye makeup. I’ll also sometimes use our Baby Oil as a gentle eye makeup remover! Shop our Cleansing Oil here and Baby Oil here! Step 2: Cleansing Oil (or Baby Bar). Being an esthetician, I’m all about creating a spa-like experience, even at home. Enter: the Oil Cleansing Method. The facial massage, the aroma of essential oils, the warm, steamy washcloth, the fresh, balanced complexion – I’m completely sold on this method of cleansing and incorporate it into my evening skincare routine almost every night. But if I’m feeling like my skin just needs a quick cleanse or light refinement, I’ll suds up with the gentle, foaming Baby Bar instead. And depending on how my skin is feeling, Double Cleansing is also a technique I’ll incorporate a couple of times a week to help reset my skin – cleansing first with my Cleansing Oil and following up with the Baby Bar. Check out our Cleansing Oils here and our Baby Bar here. And here are a couple tutorials to show you how I Oil Cleanse and Double Cleanse! Step 3: Complexion Mist. With my evening skincare routine, I focus on balancing and rebuilding hydration, so I’ll save my Everything Spray for the morning and just mist my Lavender Complexion Mist. Check out Step 4 (and Step 6!) of my morning routine above for more toner tips! Step 4: Skin Specific-Serum. As I mentioned in my morning routine, this product makes the magic happen. Morning and night, a serum is a must for me. Before bed, I’ll typically massage in about 5-8 drops of our Soothing Serum for its aromatherapy properties and skin-loving herbs. Gotu Kola and Marshmallow Root are some of my favs for restoring and supporting the skin. Check out Step 5 above in my morning routine for the other skin-specific serums I love starting my day with! Step 5: Beauty Cream (or Baby Balm). When my skin is feeling extra thirsty, I’ll apply a light layer of Blue Tansy Beauty Cream before bed to my face, neck and decollete. I love layering my serum + cream at night so it can soak in deeply while I sleep – I can tell such a difference in the tone and texture of my skin when I wake up! Baby Balm is my favorite for my delicate eye area or to deeply nourish my skin sans essential oils. Check out our Beauty Creams here and Baby Balm here. Step 6: Complexion Mist. By now you might be realizing, I’m serious about my mists! A final spritz to seal in all the healing and hydration – and a final deep breath of the calming Lavender aroma before beginning my Gua Sha routine. Take a look at all 3 Complexion Mist scents here! Step 7: Gua Sha. Talk about truly transforming my skin (and supporting my stress levels): this tool does it all. I was introduced to Gua Sha a couple of years ago and I’ve never looked back. It’s the last part of my nighttime skincare routine and is the. perfect. way. to unwind after a long day, to melt away stress + muscle tension (my jaw is always so tight!), and to remind me to not only focus on supporting my skin health, but my mental and emotional well-being too. Plus, I can tell an immediate shift in my skin after a full Gua Sha sequence – it’s a night/day difference. 🙂 Get your hands on a Gua Sha stone here! Again, a 7-step skincare routine may seem a bit much – but trust me, these steps are super simple. And while they only take a few minutes, they have a serious ripple effect on my skin health and overall well-being. My morning and evening skincare routines are a part of my day that I genuinely look forward to. More than just the practical steps of what products to apply and when, there really is hidden power that reveals itself when I commit to a regular skincare routine. For me, it’s become a daily reminder to receive care and compassion not only for my skin, but for every area of my life. And I hope you discover that for yourself as well. 🙂 XO

The Best Products To Repair Dry, Sun-Drenched Skin: Summer Skin Series Part 3

Welcome to Part 3 of our 3-part Summer Skin Series! This series is here to help you soak up all this season has to offer – without any harmful side effects. Check out Part 1 (how to protect your skin + prevent sun damage) and Part 2 (common summer skin woes + what to do about them) for even more summer skin tips. Soaked up a little too much sun? Feeling inflamed, sensitive or seriously dehydrated? When your skin barrier is compromised, the last thing you want to do is apply products with harsh chemicals that can be even more irritating or stripping for delicate skin. Repairing your skin and bringing it back to balance is possible (sans chemicals!) with just a few simple natural skincare swaps – and some you can even make in your kitchen! Keep scrolling below for the best product picks + easy DIY recipes you’re going to need to nourish dry, sun-drenched skin. MIST Rather than using harsh astringents + harmful alcohols as a toner, switch to natural hydrosols + botanicals to help hydrate and replenish the skin’s protective barrier. The point of applying a toner is actually to replenish the skin after cleansing and to prep the skin to soak in moisturizer (a much-needed remedy for dry, damaged skin)! Everything Spray: Spritz onto skin or apply with an organic cotton round after a day in the sun to replenish nutrients and moisture. Whether you’re sun-kissed or sunburned, Everything Spray is a powerful skin soother that calms redness, infuses skin with hydration and stimulates healing with lavender, aloe vera, apple cider vinegar, magnesium oil and more. Shop Everything Spray here! Lavender Complexion Mist: Mist your skin multiple times throughout the day for a boost of hydrating humectants and healing benefits to strengthen + support the skin. Aloe vera juice regenerates damaged and inflamed skin while organic lavender hydrosol and lavender essential oil deeply soothe and relieve redness. (Keep your complexion mist in the fridge for some serious cooling + calming skincare benefits!) Shop Lavender Complexion Mist here! DIY: You can care for your sun-drenched skin with the clear gel from a fresh aloe vera leaf to replenish lost nutrients and moisture. You can typically find a little aloe plant at your local health food store or plant shop! (By the way, steer clear of the green-colored, chemical-filled aloe gel you find at drugstores.) You can also mist equal parts rosewater + witch hazel along with several drops of essential oils – try lavender to boost skin healing! Blend together in a glass bottle and shake before each use. MASK For delicate, dehydrated skin, masks are a must because they deliver a potent dose of soothing herbs straight to the skin to help expedite the skin’s healing process. Opt for a more restorative facial mask to create a protective covering and provide immediate relief for inflammatory skin conditions. Pure botanical extracts and soothing herbs offer multiple benefits for reducing redness, calming inflammation and rebuilding hydration. Soothing Mask +CBD: Some of the *best* ingredients for sensitive skin states are spirulina + chlorella (algaes that combat inflammation), marshmallow root, and gotu kola (an ancient skin-healing herb!). Apply this mask as often as needed to provide relief + offer some serious skin TLC! Plus with the addition of organic, full-spectrum CBD Oil, your skin is going to get a potent dose of anti-inflammatory properties to visibly bring balance back to your complexion. Shop the Soothing Mask +CBD here! DIY: Spirulina, raw honey, and oats are simple, effective ingredients known to calm and hydrate skin – and are all ingredients you may at home already (or can easily pick up from the grocery store!). Spirulina is packed with restorative nutrients, oats are a common calming ingredient and raw honey is a natural humectant that helps to rebuild hydration. Simply blend together and apply your freshly made mask a few times a week after cleansing and let it soak into the skin for as long as possible – trust us, your skin’s going to LOVE it! P.S. Put your pure clay masks on hold as your skin is in repair-mode, as they can tend to dry out and strip the skin when they tighten + harden on your complexion. Stick to the honey-based masks for maximum replenishment! FACIAL OILS Natural oils are SO powerful in their ability to restore and heal the skin, which is why we love using potent and pure skin-loving oils for facial serums. They are naturally rich in antioxidants, vitamins and essential fatty acids and provide a wide range of benefits to help deeply nourish the skin at a cellular level. You can alternate + even layer these oils in your skincare routine based on your specific skin needs to support a calm, balanced complexion daily. Clarifying Serum: Packed with anti-inflammatory oils, this serum helps to repair the skin and prevent further damage to delicate skin. Green tea (with EGCG), turmeric and colloidal silver are powerhouses when it comes to calming skin conditions, soothing inflammation and regenerating skin cells. Plus this serum just smells like summer (and is potent in healing Vitamin C) with citrus oils such as sweet orange, neroli and grapefruit. Simply put, this is Summer in a serum! Shop the Clarifying Serum here! Soothing Serum +CBD: CBD is a skin superfood and dream ingredient for delicate, dry and inflamed skin conditions. No matter what skin issues you may be experiencing this season, CBD is about to become your new best friend. With restorative minerals, multiple amino acids, and the perfect ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3, it powerfully strengthens skin, creates a more resilient complexion and rebuilds the delicate skin barrier. Plus, it’s blended with other skin-loving oils and botanicals that boast an impressive profile of skin-soothing nutrients that will help restore your skin – and dare we say, almost overnight. 🙂 Shop the Soothing Serum +CBD here! DIY: You can create your own facial serum as simply or as intricately as you’d like! You can blend 2 to 10 (or more!) organic oils to treat your specific skin needs. Here are a few oils we absolutely love to blend to help repair sun-drenched skin: jojoba oil, argan oil, lavender essential oil, frankincense essential oil, and helichrysum essential oil. Store in a small glass dropper bottle and apply morning and night after cleansing + toning! BODY OILS Hydrate and heal from head to toe. After spritzing Everything Spray, layer on a nourishing, non-toxic body oil to help heal sun damage + restore skin. Sadly, several lotions and creams on the market contain ingredient lists that are almost entirely made up of artificial + irritating ingredients. So it’s essential to swap out skin-suffocating and potentially harmful moisturizers for natural alternatives that actually improve your skin’s health and ability to repair itself. Blue Tansy Body Oil: One of the most potent sources of anti-inflammatory properties, Blue Tansy’s high levels of azulene (the naturally occurring component that gives this oil its deep blue hue) makes it rich in antioxidants + skin-soothing properties. Perfect for sensitive skin, damaged skin and healing inflammation, your skin is left feeling nourished, strengthened, and hydrated. (Beauty tip: this body oil also doubles as a natural moisturizing hair mask. The perfect solution for thirsty locks!) Shop Blue Tansy Body Oil here! DIY: Organic oils such as jojoba oil and extra virgin olive oil (which you most likely already have stocked in your kitchen!) can regenerate and supply the skin with nutrients + essential fats. Blend with essential oils for aromatherapy properties and add in dried herbs – we love infusing oils with lavender buds, chamomile flowers or calendula blossoms for added calming benefits. Plus, they just look so pretty! While you’ve taken steps to protect your skin, prevent sun damage and support common summer skincare woes, we know there may be times where you leave your sun hat behind or find yourself without your safe sunscreen and we hope these product picks + easy DIYs will help nurture your dry, sun-drenched skin back to full health! What products or DIYs are your go-to this summer? Spill your secrets below, we’d love to know! XO

Steps To A Simple Skincare Routine (A Video Tutorial With Our Holistic Esthetician)

Skincare routines. Some people love them, some just don’t. Trust me, I get it. Too often skincare routines can seem too time-consuming or too confusing or maybe just too high maintenance for your minimal approach to life. If that’s you, I feel you. Even though I’ve been working with skincare for years, I still can sometimes get overwhelmed with all of the product options, the steps, the dos, the don’ts. And when I was first starting to put a simple skincare routine together for my skin type, I had no idea what products were best or the proper steps for a complete skincare routine. So, I got them all. I had drawers and cabinets full of half-used skincare products. At one point I was using almost 10 different products on my skin before bed! At the time it seemed luxurious, but looking back, it may have been just slightly excessive. If that’s you, I feel you, too. 😉 Several of our customers and people in our community are in a similar place. We get questions sent to our inbox and DMs daily about where to begin and what products are best and how to use them to get the most benefits. No matter your background – whether you’re a beauty guru or just beginning – we want to help clear the air about skincare and show you a simpler, more effective way. Why? Because the benefits of skincare are SO worth it. And you might even start to notice how this simple decision to commit to a skincare routine can create a positive impact on other areas of self-love and life, as well. The first thing to remember about a skincare routine is that it’s intended to serve you and your skin and your schedule. You can simplify these steps if you’re short on time or you can make your skincare routine more intentional depending on your skin needs and the results you’re hoping to see – or if you’re in need of some serious self-care. Either way, it’s important to commit to a skincare routine that you can stick with, because consistency is key to creating truly healthy skin. While we don’t follow a one-size-fits-all philosophy for skincare, we do have a few suggestions to help support your complete + simple skincare routine, morning and evening. Here’s our guide to getting the most out of your skincare products – and getting the results you want to see in your skin. Enjoy! EVENING: Before bed is typically when we’ll suggest taking a bit more time and intention for yourself and your skin. Fully removing the day and prepping the skin for a solid night’s sleep – which is when your body is able to do its reparative work and deeply soak in the benefits from your skincare. But if you’re too tired, traveling or just want to stick to a minimal beauty routine, remember to at least commit to the 3 foundational skincare steps: cleanser, toner, moisturizer. Remove eye makeup with Baby Oil + Cleanse with Cleansing Oil or Baby Bar or both (we love the Double Cleansing technique!): This is the first – and most crucial – step in any skincare routine. It not only purifies pores and dissolves dirt + buildup, but it creates a clean, fresh foundation to receive the nutrients from your other skincare products to follow.   Tone with Everything Spray and/or replenish with Complexion Mists: One of the main purposes of including a toner in your skincare routine is to replenish the skin after cleansing and to prep the skin to deeply soak in your moisturizer.   Apply a DIY mask weekly (we love blending this clay with our Everything Spray and/or Complexion Mist!)   Nourish eye area with Baby Balm   Repair with targeted serum and/or hydrate with Beauty Cream (or Baby Balm for sensitive skin): Whether you use an oil-based serum or our deeply nourishing Beauty Creams, moisturizers are a must for dry, sensitive and even oil-rich skin types. And remember, when applying your final few skincare products, be sure to layer them from lightest to heaviest to support proper hydration and absorption.   MORNING: Splash skin with warm water (or cool if your complexion needs a bit of a pick me up)   Tone with Everything Spray and/or replenish with Complexion Mists   Repair with targeted serum and/or hydrate with Beauty Cream (or Baby Balm for sensitive skin)

6 Tips For Glowing Skin

We all want radiant, glowing skin. But if your post-holiday + mid-winter skin is anything like mine, it’s seen better days. Between the extra sweets and glasses of wine by the fireplace, dry winter air, added stress of the holidays, travel, etc., my skin is in desperate need of a pick-me-up! In an effort to nurse my complexion back to health, I’ve compiled a list of a few tips sure to bring life to dull + tired skin. If starting with all of these at once sounds intimidating, try adding in one or two at a time. Creating (and sticking to) a new healthy habit will naturally start a snowball effect where more healthy habits are created and the not-so-healthy ones are left behind. HOW TO GET GLOWING SKIN Tip #1: Get plenty of beauty rest. As a new-ish mom, this one has been nearly impossible for me. But if you don’t have an adorable little human monopolizing your nighttime hours, I highly recommend making sleep a priority. Getting a full night’s rest (7-9 hours) helps to restore the skin’s moisture balance, stimulate collagen, and (this is a big one) fight inflammation. Tip #2: Improve your circulation. When blood flow is boosted, much needed nourishment is sent to skin cells, reestablishing a radiant complexion and minimizing the effects of inflammation. Exercise is key when it comes to getting your blood pumping! And oscillating between hot and cold water (the colder the better) a few times while in the shower does the trick as well. Cypress essential oil (found in our Fancy Face Serum) is also known to increase blood flow to skin cells, making skin look more lively + healthy. Tip #3: Take up dry brushing. When done regularly, dry brushing is known to stimulate the lymphatic system (allowing the body to rid itself of toxic build-up), exfoliate the skin, remove dead skin cells + stimulate the growth of new ones and enhance blood circulation. It can also reduce the appearance of cellulite over time! Dry brushing is an easy habit to adopt and takes about 2 minutes per day. To start, gently stroke your body with the dry brush before showering. Begin with your extremities and gently move towards the heart in upward, circular strokes. Dry brushes can be found in our Spa Kit. Tip #4: Eat leafy greens (lots of them). Leafy green veggies (spinach, kale, etc.) help to support the body’s detoxification processes, flushing out excess hormones that can cause imbalances in the skin. Aim for 2-3 cups/day of leafy greens (the equivalent of a smoothie and a salad). Tip #5: Catch some rays. Getting adequate amounts of sunlight (for your skin type) is a vital piece of achieving an optimal level of health. One of the most important benefits it offers is Vitamin D — necessary for thousands of reactions within the body. In addition to the added health benefits of sunlight, it also provides the complexion with a beautiful sunkissed glow that can’t be replicated (no matter how much bronzer you apply). During the winter months when the weather is cool and sunlight is sparse, try getting outside for even a quick 10-20 minutes whenever possible — you don’t need much! Tip #6: Upgrade your skincare routine. Many of the skincare products lining the shelves at your local grocery or drug store are made with cheap, toxic ingredients. And although they may provide you with short-term results, they aren’t doing the long-term health of your skin any favors. On the flipside, skincare products made with real + organic ingredients help to improve the overall health of the skin, making it more resilient to signs of aging and inflammation. Some of our favorites for glowing skin include Cleansing Oil (a different type of “face wash” based on the age-old method of using beneficial oils to remove dirt and grime from pores), Fancy Face Serum (blend of 17 organic carrier + essential oils known to improve fine lines, acne and age spots) and Complexion Mist (a hydrating + refreshing mist that can be used throughout the day for an instant pick-me-up). Most importantly, remember that beauty radiates from the inside out. And (cheesy as it may sound) no matter how many things you do to improve your skin’s health and outer appearance, nothing will make your complexion glow more than a joyful spirit! This year, focus on doing things that bring you joy — cultivate happiness on the inside and it will show on the outside.

How To Transition Your Skincare For Healthy Winter Skin

Baby, it’s cold outside! As you swap your sundresses and denim cut-offs for chunky knits and turtlenecks, your winter skincare routine should follow suit. Because as the weather changes, our wardrobe isn’t the only thing that needs to adapt, our skin does too. As temperatures drop this time of year, so do our moisture levels – leading to a complexion that’s dull, dehydrated and more susceptible to sensitivities. That means it’s time to take stock of your current skincare routine and make some adjustments depending on what your skin is saying. From the blistering cold outdoors to blasting heat indoors, fluctuating temps can really take a toll on your skin. But flaky, dry, weather-beaten skin doesn’t have to be inevitable – a few simple tweaks is all it takes! To keep skin glowing and hydrated, keep reading. Here are a few tips to help transition your skincare routine for healthy winter skin, all season long. START HERE: CLEANSING Start here for healthy winter skin! Rebuilding hydration + preserving the skin’s natural moisture barrier starts with the first step of your skincare routine: cleansing. So this season, swap stripping soaps + conventional cleansers for a Cleansing Oil properly formulated for your skin state to balance the skin, leaving it purified and properly hydrated. Cleanse nightly with nourishing oils to deeply cleanse and wash away the day (even holiday makeup and buildup) – without over-drying the skin. To find out exactly how to do it, watch this tutorial! Cleansing Oil Tip: Make sure to use warm water – not hot! Although scalding, steamy water might be tempting during the cold, winter months, it can actually cause skin to become even more dry and depleted. Warm water is all you need to soften skin, purify pores and feel ahhhh-mazing all winter long. WEEKLY WINTER STEAM Add even more elements of warmth to your routine and upgrade your winter wellness + skincare ritual with a weekly aromatherapy steam facial. This is such a therapeutic way to boost beauty and immunity during the winter months. Not only does the warmth of the steam help to purify pores and give your skin a healthy glow, organic essential oils of eucalyptus, peppermint + spearmint help to clear skin (and sinuses), relieve congestion and provide powerful aromatherapy benefits for your skin and mood. Here’s how to create a steam facial at home: Bring a pot of pure water to a boil and while the water is warming up, take a few minutes to oil cleanse your skin (see winter tip above!). Transfer boiling water to a large bowl and add a couple spoonfuls of Sea Soak. Find a comfortable place where you can sit with your face over the steam. Drape a towel over your head to hold in the heat and deeply relax. If at any point the steam feels too hot, be sure to pull your face back a bit. Take several deep breaths and allow the aromas + warmth to do its healing work. After about 10-15 minutes, follow the steps below to complete your winter skincare routine and seal in moisture. LIGHTLY EXFOLIATE (KEYWORD: LIGHTLY) To combat dry, dull winter skin, mask more often! Without proper exfoliation, you may just be applying moisturizer on top of dead skin cells, which doesn’t allow for nutrients to actually hydrate and heal. But steer clear of harsh ingredients + aggressive exfoliation techniques that actually strip and irritate winter skin even more. Stick with natural clays, raw honey and botanical oils that are rich in minerals, vitamins, enzymes and humectants to gently slough off dead skin cells, refine skin texture and optimize hydration – and even help to boost the absorption/benefits of your serum + moisturizers! These are a few of our go-to masking ingredients to nourish winter skin: Raw honey: this superfood is a natural humectant and infuses hydration into the skin. Hibiscus: a natural source of AHA’s (alpha-hydroxy acids) and antioxidants to stimulate cell turnover and support moisture levels. Bakuchiol: this natural retinol alternative accelerates cell renewal and improves skin texture. Marshmallow root: works in the same way as hyaluronic acid to deeply hydrate + heal. Mask Tip: Set aside time in your evening ritual to mask and relax! Try applying a light layer of raw honey mixed with hibiscus powder + pink clay or try this nourishing facial mask a few times a week. Then finish with your full winter skincare routine to replenish even more moisture as you sleep. LAYER, LAYER, LAYER This is the secret to a successful winter skincare routine: layering. Cold weather calls for layering, and not just for your OOTD (aka Outfit Of The Day – it’s okay, I had to look that up too 😉 ). Specific products in your skincare routine actually work better together and help to build on the benefits of one another. After your oil cleansing ritual, follow these steps below to layer your products to enhance their effectiveness and finally say “see ya later” to flaky, dry, weather-beaten skin. LAYER COMPLEXION MIST + SERUM: The best way to boost the absorption (and the benefits!) of your serum is by spritzing a hydrosol beforehand. A simple spritz of Complexion Mist after cleansing and before applying your moisturizer allows hydration to soak even more deeply into the skin and provides much needed dry skin relief. LAYER SERUM + BEAUTY CREAM: Think of your skin-specific serum like your favorite chunky sweater: a seasonal staple. Infuse life into thirsty skin that’s dull + dehydrated on the daily. But sometimes, when it gets really cold outside, a sweater just isn’t going to cut it – that’s where your coat comes in: aka beauty cream. (Thanks for bearing with me during this wardrobe analogy! 😉 ) After applying your skin-specific serum, seal it all in with a Beauty Cream to deeply moisturize and nourish the skin. For super-sensitive or weather-beaten skin, try the Baby Balm which is rich in marshmallow root (aka nature’s hyaluronic acid) to attract moisture and protect the skin’s delicate barrier.  LAYER BEAUTY CREAM + COMPLEXION MIST: For added hydration, spritz Complexion Mist after applying Beauty Cream to lock in moisture as the last layer in your winter skincare routine! Skin Tip: For our acne-prone friends, we encourage you to swap aggressive topical acne products and layering lots of soothing oils + herbs to help calm redness and breakouts while still strengthening the skin’s delicate barrier. Trust us, come Spring, your skin will thank us. 😉 LITTLE DETAILS Don’t forget your eyes + lips! These little areas on the face shouldn’t be overlooked, especially this season. Eyes: This fragile skin is the first place to reveal dehydration, sleep deprivation (hello, dark circles) + signs of aging, so it’s essential to include a vitamin-rich cream in your winter skincare routine. Even if you feel too exhausted at the end of the day to cleanse your skin and apply eye cream, staying consistent with your skincare will keep your complexion radiant and clear – no concealer needed. Lips: Chapped lips don’t have to come with the colder months! Apply lip balm before bed and wake up to soft, buttery (and plump!) lips, even in the dead of winter. Lip Tip: Not only do you want to keep this winter skin secret weapon on your nightstand, but keep one in your purse (and pocket and car) for hydration on the go. Swipe on your lips, dab under your eyes and nourish cracked cuticles, all with one little tube. WINTERTIME TOOLS Roll your way to more hydrated skin this season. Support skin health and hydration from below the surface by adding in a facial tool as the last step in your winter skincare routine! A Ridged Facial Roller or Gua Sha Stone (or both!) powerfully support the skin’s natural functions by activating the flow of lymphatic fluid, circulation and vital nutrients – plus these tools enhance the absorption of your moisturizers so you can get your glow on all winter long. Tool Tip: If you kept your Ridged Roller or Gua Sha Stone in the fridge for the summer, try keeping it in your bathroom instead as a reminder to roll every day and to boost blood flow + warmth during the cold winter months. BONUS TIP: BODY To help dry, flaky skin from head to toe, it’s time to pick up the practice of dry brushing. Natural bristles combined with short, light strokes (learn how to dry brush here!) help to gently exfoliate and slough off dry, scaly skin to reveal smoother, softer skin – no harsh or abrasive exfoliants needed. A daily dry brushing ritual helps to visibly improve skin texture and prep skin to better absorb moisture. A win-win for winter skin! Be sure to dry brush before showering (remember, warm water not hot!) and afterward, massage in a luxurious body oil while skin is still damp to drench your body with much-needed moisture. We hope these tips help you create a seamless transition to a winter skincare routine – and a healthy, hydrated complexion! XO

Oil + Water: Why Your Skin Needs Both (Our Holistic Esthetician Explains)

Today I'm debunking the myth that oil and water don't mix. Because when it comes to skin health, that's where the magic really happens. But depending on different skin conditions, preconceived notions about products or adopting a minimalist approach to skincare, you may be more drawn to using only one component of this duo: oil or water. Except, that’s only half of the healthy skin equation. Hydration (water) + moisture (oil) = The optimal combo for combatting both dryness and dehydration to create skin that’s clear, resilient and seriously glows. Hydration and moisture are words often used interchangeably, however, they’re actually different components (and foundational elements) for balanced skin. And if you’re not getting both, your skin's not getting the full range of nutrients it needs - while making it more susceptible to sensitivities, premature aging and breakouts. Let’s break it down. It all starts with understanding your skin’s needs, how it’s been created to function, the difference between dryness and dehydration, and how oil + water work synergistically to completely transform not only the efficacy of your skincare routine, but your skin itself. Water Our bodies, including our skin, are made up of almost entirely water so this is an essential component for skin to function optimally.  When you think water, think hydration - just like you would when it comes to your overall health. Whether it's in the body or on the skin, lack of water leads to dehydration. Dehydrated skin is considered a skin condition (as opposed to a skin state - even oil-rich skin can experience dehydration!) and can be impacted by our internal/external environments: climate changes physical movement water intake from food + bevs (or lack thereof) alcohol and caffeine consumption environmental pollution topical skincare products (ineffective formulas or routines) One of the skin's main jobs is to be a defensive barrier: keeping out chemicals, bacteria and harmful substances, while ensuring water and other necessary nutrients stay intact – preventing dehydration, injury and sun damage. Without water, skin's ability to provide protection (and appear vibrant and youthful) becomes seriously compromised. Our body and our skin barrier need water to thrive (even oil-rich skin states!) - but it's not just about getting more water into your body or onto your skin, it's all about absorption. Effectively absorbing the water you're giving your skin is everything. For boosting hydration in the body, we know that adding fresh herbs or lemon (plant materials) or even sea salt (minerals) significantly helps, and the same goes for your water-based skincare products.  Natural face toners incorporate floral waters (aka hydrosols) which provide a drink of water for your skin cells, lock in hydration plus provide vitamins and vital nutrients to boost absorption and benefits. Plant waters prep the skin to easily absorb additional moisture and help deliver nutrients more deeply from oil-based serums/creams. Here are a few of our favs to increase water content in the skin: Lavender hydrosol: This antibacterial botanical calms sensitivities, restores hydration and expedites the healing process for compromised skin barriers. Neroli hydrosol: Packed with antioxidants, this exotic blossom stimulates cell renewal along with anti-inflammatory compounds to minimize acne/scarring and balance oil production. Rose hydrosol: This beautifying plant protects skin from water loss by locking in hydration along with vitamins A + C to even skin tone and create a firmer, more dewy complexion. Rebuilding healthier, hydrated skin starts with a spritz. So if you're skipping this crucial step, you’re missing out a major component of a balanced, glowing complexion. Water Warning: When water is listed on a skincare product label (often it's the very first), it comes with some strings attached: preservatives. The presence of water requires some sort of preservative to protect it from bacteria growth, but the majority of preservatives in skincare today are hormone disruptors, skin irritants and carcinogenic. Instead, opt for a natural preservative like radish root ferment filtrate that also infuses the skin with healing properties. Win win.   Oil  Now that we're familiar with how water can make or break your skin health, let's look at this layer of oil that hasn’t had the greatest reputation over the years - but thankfully (for the sake of your skin) the oil-free myth is finally being debunked.  When you think oil, think moisture - and lack of oil leads to dryness. Dry skin is considered a skin state as it’s more closely connected to the inherent makeup of your skin. But that doesn’t mean tight, flaky skin is your fate - just like with hydration, there are lifestyle factors and topical products that can improve how your skin behaves and help restore that happy balance. Another job our skin’s got on its plate is to produce lipids naturally (it’s actually a healthy and very necessary function of the skin called: secretion) with the goal of keeping skin moisturized, resilient and elastic. However, too much or too little oil can create an identity crisis for your skin - from congestion to reactive skin to premature aging. Just like with our body’s water content, internal/external factors can cause this skin’s function to be in flux and contribute to imbalances like these below: Over-stimulation of sebum = buildup, congestion + problematic breakouts Decrease in oil = dryness, signs of aging + sensitivities Typically, the approach to balance oil is by over cleansing, chronic exfoliation and stocking up on oil-free products. But clear, glowing skin isn’t created by stripping away every last ounce of oil, but by establishing a healthy relationship with your sebaceous glands. How does that happen? A steady diet of essential fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants found in skin-loving oils that actually feed the skin, reinforcing its delicate acid mantle and strengthening its lipid barrier to keep these nutrients intact. Here are some of our favorite oils that feed the skin - and could be the missing link in your moisture levels: Prickly Pear Seed Oil: This desert dwelling plant is packed with fatty acids, acne-fighting minerals like zinc along with vitamins E (the highest of any plant source!) and K to balance oil production, restore elasticity and repair sun-induced pigmentation. Marula Oil: Native to South Africa, its healing and hydrating powers are potent in vitamins C and E and quickly absorbed by the skin (good news for our oil-rich friends!) to reduce inflammation, heal scarring and balance the skin barrier. Squalane Oil: Sourced from olives, squalane is easily recognized by the skin and deeply absorbs to protect the delicate acid mantle, improve moisture balance and restore reactive skin states. Remember the topic of proper absorption from above? Well, without the prep work from your plant waters to replenish hydration first, all of this superfood goodness in your oil-based serums will simply sit on top of your skin instead of deeply penetrating to feed it on a cellular level. As we think of water as a much-needed drink for the skin, think of oil as feeding the skin - and both are essential for a well-rounded, nutrient-rich diet, I mean, skincare routine. ;) Oil-Rich? Read this: Even skin with overactive sebaceous glands (like acne-prone/oil-rich complexions) needs a healthy balance of water and oil to keep the skin’s barrier happy. The whole “oil-free” approach isn’t actually the best way to beat breakouts or keep skin clear. By withholding water and oil from your skin, you’re stripping its own natural sebum and on your way to creating a complexion that’s *more* prone to acne and oil production that spirals out of control. The solution? A steady diet of both water and oil (and a whole-food diet, too!). Oil + Water: How To Use Both For Best Results   Step 1: Double Cleansing - The very first, and foundational, step in your skincare routine also incorporates the magic combo of oil + water to ensure a completely clean, balanced complexion. First cleanse: Cleansing Oils purify excess sebum (remember science class 101: like attracts like), dissolve buildup and melt away makeup while maintaining the skin’s natural lipid barrier. Massage oil onto dry skin, remove with warm/wet washcloth and voila! Second cleanse: Suds up with a second cleanser that contains properties that are customized to your skin’s specific needs. Splash skin with water, lather and lift away impurities, rinse and then mist. Step 2: Spritz Mist - Pair a natural face toner with an oil-based serum/cream for a combo that combats all signs of dehydration and dryness - no matter your skin state. Because hydration and moisture are both necessary for balanced skin, your toner/serum combo are the duo that’s going to make the biggest difference in your skin’s texture, clarity and tone. Step 3: Skin-Specific Serum - Layer an oil-based serum over your hydrosol (while skin is still damp) to retain skin’s hydration levels, seal in moisture, infuse nutrients more deeply and support a layer of healthy lipids on the skin barrier. Skin Tip: Oil quality is everything - look for cold-pressed, organic oils to create the most nutrient-rich serum. Step 4: Skin-Specific Cream - Want to take hydration and healing one step further? Apply a cream over your serum to seal in active ingredients and protect the outermost layer of your skin. Then, add a final mist of facial toner. Step 5: Spritz Mist - This step is optional, but highly suggested for another surge of hydration and healing. Whether your skin is typically tight/dry after cleansing or you’re struggling with red/reactive skin or you reach for oil blotting sheets midday, this magic duo of oil + water might just be the missing link you’ve been looking for.

Easy Tips To Elevate Your Skincare Routine (And Results)

Before we get into this week’s blog post, I have a few questions for you: Are you getting the most of your skincare routine? Are you hitting your skincare goals? Are you happy with your current lineup? Whether it’s an enthusiastic “yes!”, a hesitant “no” or an honest “I don’t know”, you’re probably investing quite a bit of time and energy (along with your hard-earned $$) into the products you’re applying to your skin on a daily basis. What if I told you there were super simple adjustments you could make to your routine - without requiring a complete overhaul - to help you get the most out of every drop from your products and even better, more visible benefits for your skin. Today I’m spilling easy tweaks to elevate your skincare routine - and results! Double Time If you’re not double cleansing yet, this upgrade to your daily routine will make all the difference. After a long day, it can be all too easy to skimp on this step (or skip it entirely), mindlessly move through the motions and miss areas of debris and buildup - which can lead to chronic inflammation and degrade youth-promoting compounds like collagen and elastin. This 2-step cleansing technique works double time to ensure a completely clean complexion without any residual impurities, pollutants or product. After double cleansing, all that remains is a clean, radiant and balanced complexion. Let's break it down: Step 1: Use a Cleansing Oil first to effortlessly lift impurities, dissolve excess sebum and melt away makeup, even eye makeup (plus this cleanser contains castor oil which encourages hair growth: an added bonus for your lashes and brows), without stripping the skin’s natural lipid barrier. Keeping this barrier balanced is a *must* to avoid vicious cycles of acne, inflammation and dehydration. Step 2: Suds up with a second cleanser that contains properties that are customized to your skin’s specific needs. Here are a few key ingredients to look for:  Charcoal purifies congestion and clarifies an oil-rich complexion. Rose kaolin clay stimulates cell renewal and infuses dry skin with moisture. Lavender gently cleanses while calming skin with antibacterial compounds. Double cleansing daily, or even just a few times a week, is an easy way (did I mention it only takes 2 minutes?) to effectively eliminate breakouts, slow down the effects of aging and allow maximum penetration of your superpower skincare products to follow - like your toner... Seal It In With A Spritz Toning is one of the most overlooked and understated steps in your skincare routine, but the secret to elevating your results is to make this nutrient-dense mist your go-to when transitioning from one step to the next. The golden rule of toning is that any time you remove a product, like a cleanser or a mask, replenish with a few mists and press into skin to enhance penetration. But if you want to take your glow to the next level, spritz after applying your serum/cream to seal in all the skin-nourishing ingredients. Both oil and water are needed for naturally glowing skin and this final spritz drives hydration and healing even deeper into the skin. Typically I try to live by the philosophy, less is more - but when it comes to toning, more is just, well, more. ;) Masking Secrets It’s no secret that adding in a facial mask a few times a week is going to give you a more radiant, refined complexion. But here’s my secret for heightened results from your skin-specific mask: honey tapping. Have you tried it? The tacky texture of honey paired with a simple tapping technique wakes up stagnant lymphatic flow (which is essential for clear, youthful skin) and optimizes drainage to expedite detoxification, immediately depuff and reveal a brighter, firmer appearance. How to: After applying your skin-specific mask, gently tap your skin with your fingers, moving from your neck up the face and finishing on the forehead. Make honey tapping a weekly habit to revive your skin, relax your mind and create healthier skin, from the outside in and the inside out. It's All About The Layers Now that we’ve already laid a solid foundation for optimal skin health, let’s round out your routine (and elevate your results even more) by layering your targeted treatment products. Specific products in your skincare routine actually work better together and build on the benefits of one another. Organic, high-performing plants and sustainably-sourced animal fats function synergistically to enhance effectiveness and feed the skin at a cellular level. As you finish up your skincare routine, apply a lightweight skin-specific serum first to deliver active ingredients straight into the skin. Then layer a more occlusive skin-specific cream over your serum to seal in hydration and provide a layer of defense as you face the day ahead. It’s that simple! P.S. If you feel like layering a serum and cream in your morning routine is a little much for your oil-rich skin, try layering just at night for a double dose of plant medicine while you sleep and wake up to skin that’s balanced and oh so glowy. Okay guys, remember the questions I asked at the start? If “yes” wasn’t your answer to all three, these tips are going to help change that. Get ready to actually reach your skin goals and finally find a skincare lineup - and results - you love. Give these easy skincare tweaks a try tonight, and trust me, your skin will feel like it just spent the day at the spa (but in a lot less time) - and your mind just might feel the same way, too. Sounds like a win-win to me. :) Tell us what skincare tweaks have made a difference for your skin! Drop them in the comments below. XO
