Don't you just love spring!?

I love love love spring. I love the feeling of renewal when all the bulbs and flowering trees are blooming. I look forward to taking the covers off of my porch furniture, sitting outside and drinking my tea. I love the warmer weather (I live in the South) But, before I can really sit down and enjoy all the beauty spring brings I need to make sure the exterior of my house is ready for spring. I grab my Spring Home Maintenance Checklist and make sure that my house is ready when the weather gets warmer. You too?

Now, I think Atlanta GA is the pollen capital of the world. During the early spring months everything is yellow from the pine pollen.

As soon as the pollen is mostly gone I begin to spring clean the exterior of my house from top to bottom.

I wash all the porch cushions, vacuum the porch rugs, arrange for my windows to be cleaned and the exterior of my house to be pressure washed. And, if you are a handyman (women) this can definitely be done yourself.

Last year I had baby birds nesting in an arrangement on my front porch. This year I have a birds nest behind my outdoor tv (no evidence of eggs yet).

The porches and patios get a good cleaning too. Now, I just use soap and water. The experts have the good stuff. I have no idea what they use but everything is sparkling when they are finished.

There are many responsibilities that go hand in hand with owning a home. Making sure everything is in good working order after the winter is on the top of the list. From checking the hose bib to cleaning up the yard….there is a lot!

Here is a sample of a few exterior spring cleaning tasks for you.

1. Clean and inspect the gutters and downspouts
2. Check the hose bibs
3. Inspect the roof
4. Change the furnace filters or schedule your air-conditioning service
5. Trim the bushes that are near the house
6. Replace any light bulbs that have burned out

Through the years of owning a home, I have figured out where the priorities are. This spring home maintenance check is complied by all of the things that I do every year and feel are very important.and. My husband had his own list and we compared – and guess what?!! We actually agreed on all the items. Sometimes marriage is bliss…..
