Are you a list maker? Or do you run by the seat of your pants? If you don't make lists, can I ask….how do you remember everything? Is your mind just so awesome that you forget nothing or do you not care if you forget, or….something in the middle?
In typical Jane fashion, I make lists. I have lists about lists. I have digital lists. Paper lists. Lists in my notes on my computer, which I print out and then add to as the day goes on. I also cross things off as I complete them (my husband, when he would complete something that was not on his list, would add it and then cross it off). Talk about obsessed right?
Christmas time seems to be the time that I have multiple lists. Now, these lists are not all to-do lists. Some are ‘Gifts for friends' or ‘Gifts for the family.' A place for me to jot down an idea and then add to it as the gift is purchased. There is a Christmas card list. A baking list. A grocery list. A ‘to be mailed' list. A daily list. A weekly list. A ‘blog post to write' list. I could go on and on. Just typing it all makes me exhausted. hahah.
Even though I start early and try to stay ahead of the curve…
It is now December and I realized that I need to Press Pause and Praise.
Why? Because while compiling ALL of those lists, getting things done, and checking it all off, I completely forgot about the most important thing. The reason.
I got so caught up in all the stuff that I completely forgot that the Christmas season is not about the lists, gifts or baking. It is ALL about my own personal Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born on Christmas day. He is the reason for the Christmas season.
He came so that I could be saved and live a contented and fulfilled life. He did NOT come so that I could shop, decorate and bake. He did NOT come because I was good or deserved it…how could that even be? I am not good all the time. I get upset, irritated and angry. And I really deserve nothing. I am entitled to nothing. And, as I discovered when I was about 50, I AM nothing without Him.
I purchased a December devotional for myself and my daughter.
The devotional is called ‘Savor the Savior' by Well Watered Women. It began on December 1st and goes through December 31st. Each day we sit and reflect on the miracle of Christmas. We reflect and we savor the Savior. It is an opportunity for us to press pause and praise. To press pause and reflect. To press pause and breathe. To press pause and remember. To press pause and live.
I have totally enjoyed my quiet time these past 10 days. My time for thought and reflection. My time to remember. Are my ‘lists' still there? You betcha they are….but all of those things can wait.
I would like you to know that…
Jesus would like you to press pause. And, if you don't know Him…I would like to offer you the opportunity to get to know Him. No idea how to do that? Just let me know….I will definitely help. Send an email to: hello@positivelyjane.net
As I type this I am praising my Savior. One of my fave songs is below. What a beautiful name it is…the name of Jesus. Christ my King. Enjoy – I hope you have a wonderful Christmas this year.
