Don't you just love fresh herbs? I love them but they tend to be expensive in the store and they don't last very long. So, I decided to grow my own (easy – grab a pot, some soil and plop them in), harvest them and store those dried herbs!
Drying and bottling herbs is deeply satisfying on many levels. For me anyway.
First, I grew the herbs. My vegetable garden produced herbs, tomatoes and weird looking (but very yummy) cucumbers this year. Actually, an abundance of tomatoes.
Now I would like to show you how I now take those dried herbs and store the dried herbs in bottles. It is super easy.
This is the herbs that I cut down about 6 weeks ago. They have been hanging in my closet. I have a post on how to do this. Check it out. You need herbs, lunch bags, a hole punch and a hanger 🙂
Once they are dry take them out of the bags. I put all of the like kinds together. I think I have sage, parsley, dill, and chives.
I then grab an old baking sheet and pick/pull off as many leaves that I can…leaving the stems behind.
I use my hands and crumble and when I feel a large stem I remove it. The little tiny stems are ok with me.
I then put them in jars. I don't smash them in. That way I can get a few extra jars of dried herbs.
I have been buying these same jars from Amazon for a few years. There is a shaker cap inside. I will put labels on them later. Right now blue tape will have to do!
Go on – dry some herbs…and store those dried herbs in bottles.
